That may well be a moot point, but that the new Evoque launched in SA last week adds increased rear legroom, a larger loadspace and enhanced small item stowage delivered thanks to a longer wheelbase, we can probably vouch for. We still need to meet new Evoque, but they tell us that its innovative Terrain Response 2 technology meets every need from city streets to the mountain tops, ensuring your destination is reached no matter the conditions.

The newcomer also ushers in the world’s first Ground View technology which makes the bonnet invisible while a high-definition video screen revolutionises rear view mirror visibility from the driver’s seat, while its state-of-the-art Touch Pro Duo infotainment system featuring two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens for unrivalled functionality and intuitive operation.

Packing even more advanced JLR Ingenium engines with new tech to make them quieter and more refined, South African customers have the choice of 132kW diesel and 183kW petrol engines, while a 221kW plug-in hybrid will be added to the range early in 2020. Evoque’s ZF nine-speed automatic gearbox has been calibrated for a smoother, more progressive drive on all-terrains.

The diesel D180 wafts to 100km/h in 9.3 seconds and returns 5.8l/100km average fuel consumption, while the P250-petrol rushes to 100 in 7.5 seconds, and sips 7.4l/100km. We look forward to bringing you a little more hands-on Evoque info soon.
