BMW is set to unveil the new X6 in spite of these press images leaking out early. The third-generation coupé SAV gains a more aggressive BMW X face, but opts for a more stylish, angled grille over the X5’s knob, which car X6 will share most of its mechanical make-up, engines and technology. That means the all-wheel-drive fastback will get xDrive30d and xDrive40d turbodiesels but a broader petrol-range in certain markets including the xDrive40i, 50i and the new 45e plug-in hybrid. Add the M Performance quad-turbo 3-litre straight six M50d and an M50i variant later on. Based on BMW’s CLAR platform with double wishbone front and five-link rear suspension with optional air springs, the X6 will be near identical to the X5 inside with seventh-generation iDrive infotainment albeit with a slightly lower driving position.
