Mercedes-Benz finally reveals EQC

Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed its eagerly awaited EQC — the company’s first pure-electric car to go into production to take on Tesla Model X, Jaguar i-Pace and the forthcoming Audi E-tron. The first of possibly 10 new pure electric Mercedes by 2025, the five-seater SUV is based on a heavily modified GLC platform with a drag coefficient likely less than 0.30. 
Weighing in at 2425kg and energised by a 650kg 80kWh lithium ion battery driving a newly developed electric drivetrain comprising two electric motors; one powering each axle for all-wheel drive capability depending on mode and delivering a combined 300kW and 750Nm. Each motor delivers a unique performance envelope — the front unit is tuned for low to mid-range efficiency, while the rear motor is more performance orientated across the mid to top range to deliver 5.1-second 0-100km/h acceleration and a speed-limited 180km/h top speed in sport mode, while EQC will tow a 1.8-ton trailer and carry a 515kg payload. 
Mercedes promises a 300km WLTP cycle travelling range, while a standard 7.4kW onboard charger enables AC charging, either via regular mains or a scarce 110kW high-voltage public station for 80% charge in 40 minutes.
Longer and lower, but riding on the same wheelbase as GLC, EQC boasts a refined GLC-based cabin with a new A-Class-like dashboard, instrument and infotainment cluster and a new multifunction steering wheel, all also expected in the forthcoming GLC facelift, while 500 litres luggage space is up on its combustion propelled kin.
