So, you want a double cab bakkie, but you can’t foot the bill? You sure about that?
See, bakkies like this valid value GWM Steed 5 2.4 double cab SX certainly do offer more than enough double cab for a hell of a lot less than you may expect – in fact at just R206K, this is among the best bakkie bargains out there.
Five is all about one thing and that’s to give you the most possible bakkie bang for your buck. And there’s a lot of it too – well enough equipped, good looking and it’s pretty capable at it.
Performance is not top drawer, but it’s adequate – you won’t be a menace on the freeway – in fact you won’t have any problems cruising it at a comfortable pace no matter what the load. Acceleration is in the ballpark – especially at that giveaway price and the 2.4 petrol lump fitted to this one, gets on with it. Sure, you won’t win a quarter-mile drag against a GTI but that is not what this one is all about.
Load it up and it will be happy – toting a tonne and pulling two – not the best, but once again, you can’t ignore that at the price, never mind that you likely won’t mind very much if you scratch it or dent it when loading up. This one is built for work, not play.
All that said, Steed 5 still earns a few bouquets. One for looks – you’d probably not believe me at first if I told you that deep down inside, it’s still basically a three-generation old Isuzu reworked with handsome and functional looks.
Of course, it’s old school roots may well have side effects when it comes to safety and such, but then beggars can’t be choosers – Steed 5’s real strengths rather lie in its great value than in gimmicks, gadgets and good old hot air.
