It's been a busy week for BMW with the launch of the new One and M Performance X5 and 7 overseas, the local launch of the X7 and now this too — meet the revised X1. BMW’s most popular SUV has been handed a mid-life nip and tuck along with a plug-in hybrid variant for the first time in the Western world. 

Subtle upgrades include a larger more X2-like kidney grille, revised head and taillights; front and rear bumpers and larger bore 90mm tailpipes. M Sport variants are now more differentiated too, with 10mm lower ride height, larger brake discs and air intakes and more body-coloured bits, as well as new colour and wheel choices across the range. 

Cabin changes bring better quality materials in three new options and upholstery in three new options with contrast stitching in higher grade models and there is now an an optional six colour lighting package.

The range-topping non M Performance model is now a creamy new 170kW xDrive25i X1 good for 100km/h in 6.5 seconds, while the current 140kW xDrive 20i. The forthcoming 90kW 220Nm three-pot front-drive petrol and 70kW 150kW rear-drive electric and so AWD xDrive25e plug-in hybrid gets a 9.7kWh battery for a 50km electric-only range, with economy and emissions data is yet to be revealed.
