Old school is cool for 718 GT4, Spyder

Porsche has gone against the flow with its new hardcore naturally aspirated 308kW 425Nm 4-litre boxer-six six-speed manual 718 Boxster Spyder and Cayman GT4 'to offer enthusiasts unadulterated driving pleasure through a high level of agility and an almost intimate proximity to the centre of power'.

Now the entry point in Zufferhausen’s street GT line-up, the duo uses an adapted latest 911 3-litre flat six upped to 4 litres and loses the turbocharger, but still musters 32kW and 45Nm more than the previous incarnation with peak power at a lofty 8000rpm and maximum torque from 5000 to 6800rpm to deliver 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds, 301km/h in Spyder and 303km/h in the GT4.

The flat-six brings new adaptive cylinder control, Piezo injectors and a variable intake system, while 30mm lower race inspired spring and strut suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management damping comes with torque vectoring and a mechanical rear differential lock. The newcomer also brings 'comprehensively improved’ aerodynamic efficiency and up to 50% more downforce without increasing drag.

GT4 also has the option of a Clubsport package complete with a steel roll bar at the rear of the cabin, a small fire extinguisher and a six-point seatbelt for the driver’s side.
