Renault

At last an e-car for the people

Renault surprised with perhaps the most important launch in an affordable ‘SUV-inspired' economy electric compact called K-Ze in Paris. Offering a 250km range, K-Ze’s look is familiar because it is based on SA’s Kwid. K-Ze will start its sales career in China next year before spreading across world markets to complement the Regie’s second-best selling e-car in the world, Zoe. K-Ze will also gain spec over its bargain basement Kwid petrol sibling with parking sensors and a rear-view camera while retaining its central screen with connected navigation and services, although Kwid’s architecture has been heavily adapted for EV application with the entire subframe and axles specific to the electric. K-Ze is said to combine content, connectivity services and media to ‘turn travel time into a learning experience”.
