Bargain Indians step it up

Mahindra has launched a revised KUV100 NXT packing more style, more high-tech features and more value alongside a feature-richer XUV500 starring on options and comfort

KUV makes a significant value statement especially through a new K2+ variant with truly attractive pricing. Enhancements include a double the size 7" infotainment screen with Bluetooth, USB, video playback and 15" alloy wheels added on the K8, supported by a most attractive R2199 per month no deposit Mahindra Finance deal with a year's insurance and special offers for graduates. 

Set apart by a new LED daytime running headlamps, a seven-slot grille and silver skid plate; redesigned tail lamps, a remote-opening tailgate with a new spoiler and power/folding wing mirrors with side turn signal repeaters. K8 adds diamond-cut dual-tone 15” alloys, a gearshift indicator and Intellipark reverse parking.

KUV gets Power windows, tilt-power steering, air conditioning, central locking, underfloor storage and foldable rear seats, while K6 and K8 gain a rear row armrest, cooled glove box, follow-me-home headlights, remote keyless entry, speed-sensing door locks and two 12V power outlets. Dual front airbags, child locks and ABS are standard, while K6+ and K8 add EBD and corner braking control.

There’s a choice between two all-aluminium three-cylinder, turbo engines — a 61kW 115Nm dual VVT 1.2-litre multi-point fuel injected petrol or the 57kW 190Nm 1.2-litre common rail direct injection intercooled turbodiesel with micro-hybrid in K8. Both drive the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.

There are three XUV500s automatics at attractive price points starting with the R300K W4 packing a sunroof, keyless entry and a power driver's seat financeable at R5K a month, while the  luxurious new R360K XUV500 W10 range-topper offers a high spec at R360K. Now far mopre contemporary, styling is freshened by a new 7-slot grille and sharper highlights; new taillights and a winged tailgate. The air conditioned XUV500 adds  full climate control and Bluetooth, iPod, AUX and navi infotainment in W8 and W10.

Power windows and wing mirrors, tilt-adjustable electric power steering, remote boot opening, follow-me-home lighting and foldable second and third row seats are standard, while premier models get alloy wheels, cruise control with a reach adjusted multi-function steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlights are among many other features.

XUV500’s 2.2 turbodiesel now delivers 103kW and 330Nm, while revised the suspension sees to a dramatic drop in the noise, vibration and harshness. All models get two airbags, ABS brakes with EBD and side-impact protectio, while W8 and W10 add seat and curtain bags for a total of six airbags. W6 models and above get hill hold and descent control and ESP with rollover mitigation.

KUV is covered by a 3-year/100 000km warranty with 2-years/50 000km on the powertrain, while K6+ and K8 models get a 3-year / 50 000 km service plan, while XUV500 has a full five-year/150 000km warranty and five-year/100 000km service plan.
