Regional championship racing ups the hear

Cold and blustery weather failed to deter an enthusiastic Zwartkops crowd from enjoying a full day of varied and spectacular penultimate round Inland Championship racing before rain stopped play Saturday.

Simon Murray blasted his Ginetta G67 to a 58.482 second quickest lap of the day en route to winning the National Sports Car races from Shelby duo Ian Smith and Michael Jensen each time. Rick Loureiro (335i) won the first Bridgestone BMW race from Andreas Meier (E36), Paulo Loureiro (E36) and Oz Biagioni (M3), before Lorenzo Gualtieri (E36) took race two from Meier, Paulo Loureiro, and Willie Erasmus (E36).

Jonathan du Toit (Civic) took both autObarn SuperHatch wins from Brett Garland (Civic) and Tyler Scott (Kadett), while Deon van Vuuren (Mazda R100) won the first Midvaal Historic race from Datsun duo Ken Price and Travis Jensen, before van Vuuren won race 2 from Mario Rossi (Alfa GTV6) and Rene van Rensburg (Escort). Keagan Pottas (Civic) took both the Motul Production Car and Silver Cup wins; from Louis Cloete (Beetle) and Paul van Niekerk (Golf) in Production and ahead of Golf duo Paul van Niekerk Evert Seyffert in Silvercup.

On two wheels, Michael Dixon (Honda) took opening Bridgestone Challenge honours from Naasief Wadhalla (Kawasaki) and Francois de Villiers (Suzuki) before Christopher Kretzen (Kawasaki) took race 2 from Nigel Brandt (Kawasaki) and Wadwalla. Gerald Geldenhuys (Formula Ford) took both Monoposto races as Zac Edwards (F1600) and Mac Odendaal  (F GTi) swapped seconds and thirds and Willie Erasmus won the INEX Legends opener from Justin Robertson and Richard Upton before Jason Loosemoore won race two from Erasmus and Robertson.
