Tweaked GT2 RS sets new marker
A tweaked Porsche 911 GT2 RS has lowered the Nürburgring ‘road legal’ lap record to 6minutes 40.30 seconds, shaving 4 seconds off the previous best 6:44:97 lap by a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ earlier this year.
The cars chassis and suspension were specifically modified for its Nordschleife laps by a team of Porsche Nurburgring specialist Manthey Racing engineers. “The technicians focused on suitability for on-road driving at all times,” Porsche promised about the car that retained a standard 520kW GT2 RS 3.8-litre boxer-six. “Despite the modifications, the GT2 RS remains suitable for off-track use in Europe, rendering it eligible for the road-legal lap time record. "
Lars Kern regained his own record in the process - Porsche also holds the outright Nürburgring lap record with the 919 Hybrid Evo race car that lapped the Green Hell in 5:19:55 earlier this year.
