Model 3 redefines Performance rulebook. Again

Just when the traditional piston and petrol motor industry thought it was edging a toe into the electric car door, Tesla has reminded it that there is still much to still do if they want their new EVs to even play on the same field. 

Enter the Tesla Model 3 Performance — the ultimate version based of the Dual Motor original shares the same 80.5kW/h battery pack but packs a punchier rear motor to up total system output to 335kW and good for a 3.5-second 0-100km/h dash and 250km/h — 15 up on the stock car.  

The single speed, direct drive 1850kg Model 3 Performance rides on 20-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres with lowered suspension to deliver a quality of engineering that runs far deeper than the brand’s detractors would have you believe in a car said to be as impressive being driven on the school run, as it is flat out. 

All of that serves as a reminder that there is only one upmarket EV maker with a proven track record of selling a significant number of cars. And considering Tesla’s founder is South African, is it not high time that Tesla finds its way down to the southern tip pf Africa. Just asking…?
