Or is that Peru...?

While some argue they should call it the Peru, Dakar 2019 is limbering up for a two-week jaunt around the SudAm desert territory.

The big news fo 2019 is that X-raid Mini has signed Peugeot refugees Stephane Peterhansel, Carlos Sainz Sr and Cyril Despres, while Seb Loeb will race a privateer Peugeot. Toyota will reveal its plans at the Killarney WRX later this month, but we expect to see Nasser Al Attiyah, Giniel de Villiers and Bernhard ten Brinke back at the helm of a trio of made in SA Hiluxes.

Much South African interest this year should come on two wheels as SA Enduro champion Ross Branch (KTM) and archrival Kenneth Gilbert (Husqvarna) will carry their eternal battle to Peru, while Stuart Gregory will tackle the no service Malle Moto bike class to take bike interest back to where it was back in the day of Alfie Cox.

Will our lads mix it with the likes of Matthias Walkner, Toby Price, Kevin Benavides and Joan Barreda? Time will tell. Keep up to date with news as it happens from Peru throughout the 6-17 January epic at www.autobakkierace.co.za.
