GO gets latest styling, enhanced safety

Established as the GO-to entry car on the market, SA’s cheapest car has sold well in spite of certain safety concerns, but this new one goes some way to address all that.

SA’s most affordable new car, Datsun’s South African comeback in 2014 now takes its next step with the introduction of the new GO and GO+, which enjoy a complete makeover with an upmarket new exterior, interior styling improvements and sporty appearance to surprise.

Stylish, low cost and safety qualities feature, there’s redesigned front grille and bumpers, 14” wheels, power wing mirrors, reverse parking sensors, intermittent wipers, central locking, immobiliser, ABS, driver and passenger airbags and retractable seatbelts - with the LUX grade including daytime running lights, rear wiper with washer and body colour door handles.

The cabin includes Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity, Bluetooth, USB, front and rear power windows, electric power steering, electrically adjustable mirrors and redesigned individual seats for the driver and front passenger.  Instead  the LUX version is fitted with an independent tachometer, with silver finish on the aircon dial, vent and door handles.

A spacious 5-seater hatchback the GO+ 7-seater and panel van are also offered. The stylish new instrument panel includes 7” touchscreen infotainment, air conditioning and Follow-Me-Home. The reverse parking sensors in both models feature audible beeping when reversing.

Suspension comprises double-pivot front arms with tension from rough roads cushioned by a high-response damper for improved feel.
Front ventilated brake discs provide improved braking and extend brake-pad life by up to 27% and with less pedal effort.

The GO is powered by an energetic little 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 50kW at 5000rpm and 104Nm at 4000rpm paired with a smooth 5-speed manual transmission.  Combined consumption is 5.2l/100km.

The speed-sensitive electric steering offers little effort at low speed and firm steering effort at high speed. GO also has a class-leading turning circle of just 4.6m.

These Datsun GO and GO+ models come with a standard 3-year/100,000km warranty and an optional service plan. In addition, consumers will receive one-year insurance with the purchase of a GO or GO+. Should go a long way to appeasing all those critics… - Mario Lupini
