Porsche mainstay coming in hybrid too

These hazy undisguised images of the new 2019 Porsche 911 have leaked ahead of the car’s Los Angeles motor show  launch next week. The photos reveal a reworked rear end in another 911 evolution, but expect extensive powertrain changes with every engine in the line-up turbocharged, for the first time, now even in more hardcore variants.

The new 911 range will also include two new all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrids - a range-topping 450kW Turbo S E-Hybrid good for over 300km/h when and a Carrera 4 E-Hybrid - both set arrive in 2020 to grow the range to 24 variants. The hybrid 911s get flat-six engines with an electric motor to meet tightening EU CO2 regulations. Porsche does not rule out a future all-electric 911.

The initial 460kW Turbo S will be a biturbo 3.8-litre boxer six using GT2 RS tricks to up output by 35kW sitting above a 425kW Turbo, both good for well over 300km/h and sub-3 seconds to 100km/h. The 911 GT3 turbo gets over 375kW, while standard models will be 10kW up too.The new 911 will be built around a wider, evolved Porsche’s MMB platform.
