Meet the Golf R on stilts

Volkswagen’s recently-launched T-Roc has spawned a hot new R version due for reveal at the upcoming Geneva motor show as Wolfsburg takes a shot at the burgeoning performance crossover fight. Essentially a Golf R on stilts, T-Roc R shares the same powertrain and suspension as its Golf sibling, which means it brings the same 220kW EA888 2-litre turbo petrol lump turning a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and part-time Haldex all-wheel drive to allegedly deliver a 4.9sec 0-100km/h run and 250km/h top speed. Taller than the Golf, T-Roc R is 20mm lower to the ground than a standard T-Roc thanks to lower suspension and taut settings with passive dampers and VW’s DCC system as an option; 18' wheels with a 19” option, Golf R Performance 17" brakes from, quad tailpipes, an anodised grille, plus carbonfibre trim a sportier steering wheel and optional Golf R sport seats inside.
