Lighter, bigger and smaller Clio breaks cover

Renault tugged the veil off its fifth-generation Clio at Geneva to reveal it’s most advanced supermini to date. Evolutionary in style, Clio 5 is dramatically overhauled inside packing a significant dose of new tech. Like its new rival Peugeot 208, Clio V is smaller outside and bigger inside on La Regie's lighter new CMF-B platform at 14mm shorter on a 6mm-shorter wheelbase, riding 30mm lower in a 22kg lighter, stiffer shell. Packing the choice of a litre petrol triple in 57kW naturally aspirated and turbo in 75kW in a manual or CVT getup or a 95kW model with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, while a 60 or 80kW turbodiesel and a 70kW petrol 30kW electric E-tech hybrid good for 70% electric in town, will follow. Clio RS plans remain sketchy but Megane RS’ turbo 1.8 lump is said to fit in Clio's bay.
