BMW Motorrad betters the best

BMW Mototrrad released the latest versions of perhaps the most successful motorcycle in the world to the South African market as launched the new R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure. The world leader for 35 years, the big GS twin has stood for a distinctive, powerful, reliable and comfortable multi-able tourer and long-distance machine that has employed four-valve technology for 25 years and more recently fettled with electronic fuel injection.

Now GS gains even more power across the board to deliver 100kW and 143Nm versus 92kW and 125Nm before, thanks to BMW ShiftCam Technology, asynchronous valve opening and another capacity hike from 1170 to 1 254cc. Add a new toothed chain camshaft drive, optimised oil supply and piston base cooling, latest generation engine control with knock sensor and twin-jet injection and an optimised exhaust system.

GS also gains two riding modes,  Electronic suspension with load compensation, Stability and Hill Start Control, Dynamic Traction Control, as well as ABS Pro and Dynamic Brake Assistant. Comfort comes via an adjustable seat height, 6.5-inch full-colour multifunctional instrumentation and an extended range of standard equipment, LED daytime riding lights and new body features.

The BMW R 1250 GS sells for between R263 and R275K, while the Adventure goes for between R288 and R299K with all the regular BMW Motorrad back-up.
