VW’s Golf sized SUV headed to SA

Volkswagen South Africa this afternoon confirmed that its all-new Golf-sized T-Roc will complete its local 'T-SUV' range from November 2020. 

The fifth model in the utility range, the sexy-looking Golf-sized compact crossover T-Roc will slip between the T-Cross and Tiguan and below the Tiguan Allspace and Touareg. Volkswagen promises a new SUV benchmark in a blend of functionality, dynamics and technology plus maximum personalisation, digitalisation, and connectivity.

T-Roc will arrive in the choice of a 110kW 250Nm 1.4 TSI 8-speed Tiptronic auto in stylish Design spec and good for100km/h in 8.4 seconds, a top speed of 205km/h and of 6.9l/100km economy; and the 140kW 320Nm AWD 2.0 TSI 4Motion in sporty R-Line get-up with a 7-speed double-clutch DSG trannie that manages 100km/h in a hot-hatch like 7.2 seconds, 216km/h and 8.3l/100km. A 2/0 TSI Design variant will follow early next year.

Unmistakably stylish day and night, T-Roc will be among the first to carry the new VW logo in SA and will be will be available to order in two-tone paintwork for up to 26 different colour options. Design derivatives come in the choice of standard 17-inch or two optional 18-inch Montego wheel designs, while R-Line gets 19-inch alloys.

Sharing the hatchback’s basic platform, the 5-seat T-Roc is 80mm longer than T-Cross, 162mm shorter than Tiguan; offers Golf-like ride comfort and ample passenger and luggage space. T-Roc’s new digital interactive cockpit gets the very latest VW Active Info Display 8-inch colour touchscreen with Composition Media radio and App-Connect to mirror selected mobile phone apps onto the screen via Wireless App-Connect and We Connect Go, while integrated navigation Discover Media is optional. 

High resolution 11.7-inch instrumentation comes standard and safety features include Electronic Stability and Park Distance Control, LED Headlights, a Vision Package, Blind Spot Monitor and Fatigue Detection. IQ Drive adds Park, Emergency, Front, Traffic Jam and Lane Assistants and Adaptive Cruise Control, while options include a panoramic sunroof, electronic trailer hitch, smoker’s package, Beats sound and a Park Package.

T-Roc will come with a 3 year/120 000km warranty, 5 year/ 90 000km Service Plan ar 15 000km intervals and a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty. Prices will be confirmed closer to market release.
